Chapter hundred and seventy: the future we can't have.

"What are you doing?" Zadok asked the crown prince and princess of his kingdom.

His face was expressionless and bore a hint of an easily irritated man.

"If you try to stop me from taking command of the armies, Commander Blake here will have to fight you and I must warn you he is very s-strong" Jamie wanted to take a step back like her cowardly brother when Zadok took another step forward but she didn't.

She was Queen Luna and she had a husband to rescue.

"Why would I stop you, your majesty? Your father, king Jared sent me here to stop anyone who tries to harm both of you. I don't understand it, Queens have no business going to war but your father seem to think you can handle it, his only request was to bring both you and Crown prince home alive"

Zadok's face spoke of his disapproval. Jamie still remembered the look on his face when she had competed in the tournament of Knights dressed like a boy.

He looked both annoyed and disappointed then and it was exactly how he was looking now.

"Really?" Jamie was surprised.

Did her father really say that? W-was king Jared finally believing that she could fight and win as much as the next boy?

This was good news! It was the best thing to have happened to her since the colorless wine was invented.

Jamie's happy mood was caught short by the arrival of Queen Eileen of Koi with her personal knights.

Jamie walked down to meet her. Eileen hugged her. Jamie could tell that she has been crying for quite some time.

"I am so sorry about Alexander" Rosemund murmured.

Jamie realized she was talking about Alexander's rumored death.

"Come, Judd is waiting for you" Jamie hurried off towards the physician court with Eileen with her.

Eileen walked briskly with the Queen whose face was strangely devoid of tears. She held herself back severally from asking whether the lake water she gave to Blake from the isle of the blessed worked. Eileen figured that as long as she didn't have the answer that Judd was fine.

When they got to the physician quarters, Jamie didn't enter, she simply held the door open for Eileen.

"I am sorry" she murmured to her.

Eileen felt her heart sink into her abdomen. It didn't work! Good God, it didn't work.

She opened the door and she entered inside. She felt the violent thudding of her heart in her chest and the wetness of her cheeks.

She saw her sister in law, Rosemund with her arms around her husband comforting him. Eileen was grateful that he wasn't left alone.

"Eileen?" Judd murmured.

It made Rosemund sit up. She didn't even hear the door open but somehow her dying brother did.

"How did you know it was me?" Eileen asked him with a mixture of laughter and tears.

"I will know you scent anywhere, Eileen"

Rosemund stood up and he looked at Judd one more time.

"I will be outside, okay?"

Judd nodded as his sister walked away.

Eileen came closer to him.

She sat beside him on the bed. Her fingers caressed his face. She noted how pale his face was. And she also noted the sinking feeling that came with the helplessness she felt about her inability to help him.

"I didn't kiss Rachael" Judd told her.

His throat was dry and he coughed just a little.

"I know…I know, sweetheart" Eileen made herself comfortable on the sick bed with him. Judd managed to turn around and so they watched each other with eyes filled with unspoken feelings.

"How are you? Tell me about you" Judd demanded.

"Koi is almost restored and the people who came after us are in the dungeon awaiting trial before execution…"

"Good…good, an example should be made. You did good, darling girl" Judd touched her face.

He winced slightly as the pain went through him.

Eileen longed to take his mind away from the pain and so she did.

"I have decided to turn the bare backyard in my castle into a garden just like the one we have here. Our children can play there and we can relax after a day's job in each other's arms" Eileen told him and controlled her trembling lips as they discussed the future they would never have.

"Our children? How many do we have?" Judd asked with a weak smile.

"You tell me? They are always running towards you more than me. They said I am no fun and I am overprotective, remember?" Eileen answered and blinked away the tears in her eyes.

"Yes, I remember. We have a little girl…"

"What's her name?" Eileen asked him.

"Eireth…"

Eileen smiled "She was named after my mother, whose idea was it?"

"Yours…I wanted to call her Lily Rose but you told me she was Eireth. We argued and then you kissed me" Judd could picture everything he was saying.

"I kiss you? Was it like this?" Eileen kissed him softly.

"At first but you did it again and again and again until I gave in" Judd told her.

Eileen kissed him again and again and again, she deepened the kiss the best way she knew how. She wanted to make love to this man she felt strongly about but she knew he was too weak to go beyond kissing.

"Yes, Sweetness…you kissed me just like that and I gave in. So, we called our first born child Eireth Lily-rose Judd, Princess of Koi. Can you see her? See, she has your smile, your blonde hair and your beautiful face…."

"Yes, Luther but her cheekbones and height are all you, my love. And she is stubborn too, a papa's girl no doubt!" Eileen could picture it too.

"Yes, she is. She makes staying away from Koi almost impossible. I would die for her" Judd said with a chuckle.

"Tell me about our other child, Luther. Is she a girl too or…" Eileen's voice trailed off when Judd started talking.

"He is a little boy who somehow has black hair and towed over his elder sister like an oak tree. He is overprotective too and has a weird affinity for playing with rocks and arrows" Luther said. His face lit up with pride.

"Tell me his name?" Eileen encouraged him.

"Alexander…his name is Alexander" Luther answered.

"He is named after your brother?" Eileen cried more.

"Yes. Alexander Lucian Judd the second, prince of Koi…Don't worry, he is a lovable boy unlike his name sake. You are quite fond of him too. He would make a great king one day just like his mother" Judd replied.

"Isn't Eireth our oldest? Isn't she supposed to be Queen after me?" Eileen asked with a chuckle mixed with a knowing smile.

"She is papa's girl, remember? She wants to follow in my footsteps and become a warrior. And Derkal still favors male descendants, sweetness" Judd knew that Eileen knew about it too. She just wanted to keep him talking.

"It's me and you, Luther… we make our own rules. If Eireth wants the crown then it's hers for the taking and her brother can be her second" Eileen told him at last.

She was planning to change the order of succession to the throne anyway. As soon as her reign was solidified, she was implementing a firstborn right to the throne despite gender.

"Nah, she is perfectly happy with who she is. I wouldn't change a thing about her. And Alexander the second, I wasn't joking. He would be the greatest king to rule in Derkal. And as for their mother…" Judd's breathing was getting shallower by the minute.

"What about their mother?" Eileen asked him.

"As for their mother, the beautiful Queen Eileen of Koi, we will spend the rest of our lives together, we will argue as often as we make up. I will spend the rest of my life telling her how much I love her…." Luther could feel the droplets of tears down Eileen's cheeks.

"I love you, Eileen"

"I l-love…you too, Luther"

Eileen could feel his breathing slow and heavier. She touched his face and she kissed him.

"We will be fine, Luther. It's time to rest, my love"

She listened to his heart as it slowed with each beat.

Jamie led the wolves warriors first to attack the south under the guise of the dark sky and they were winning considering.

With each kingdom the werewolves took down, they rescued even more imprisoned werewolves.

Jamie didn't follow any guidelines of the war, she simply searched one kingdom after another for Alexander but so far she didn't find him.

By the end of the night three out of the seven kingdoms of the southern hemisphere had fallen.

During the day, the werewolves went back to the pack village and Jamie with the resistance and Her Majesty's armies attacked two more from within.

Jamie fought the king of Azrael but he was a larger man with a fighting experience even bigger than hers. She was losing and she was losing fast.

Her knights were barely keeping his small army at bay.

King Aniston struck her with the back of his palm and Jamie fell down.

First the ax headed for her head and she closed her eyes briefly. When she opened them, Aniston was on the floor with an arrow impaled to his chest.

Someone was standing over her offering her help.

Jamie's heart leaped.. It seemed like the dead had risen.
