Chapter Thirty five: All hail the Queen.... maybe

Meg walked through the royal hallway as fast as her little legs could carry, she was almost tempted to run but it would draw too much unwarranted attention to her and even though she loved attention every other day, that day wasn't one of them.

She was a short hearty middle age nursemaid. She had worked for the Royal household ever since she was a twenty and one years of age. She nursed the Crown prince and she nursed the princess too.

She could hear the sound of the horsemen as the rode vigorously into the castle to deliver the news to the princess and Meg had to get to Rosemund first before the delivery horseman.

Meg took the helm of her dress and walked even faster but she had a limp from falling from a horse and been dragged all over the forest when she was twenty and two years old. She was lucky to only escape with a broken leg.

Now, she was running. Well, the accurate term was rolling. Meg was a stout woman who cared more about variety of food she could eat at a go than her physical appearance or shape.

Luckily, she was upon Rosemund's room before she was under the threat of expiration. The princess wasn't alone. She was with one of the maids. They were helping her dress in a light yellow dress, so she can take a walk in the garden.

"Leave us at once!" Meg commanded the maid. Even though Meg had no real authority over the household, every maid and menservants dreaded crossing her bad side. She was like a mother hen where the crown prince and Princess Rosemund welfare was concerned.

The maid hesitated. Even though she wanted to obey Meg, she was helping the princess dress and princess Rosemund was the only one who can dismiss her.

"You may leave, Lisa. Meg will help me dress, won't you Meg?"

"Yes, milady. Scurry off!" She yelled at the maid and she sprinted away.

Meg locked the room and opened the princess's dress cabinet and started rummaging until she found a golden dress.

"You have to wear this, Rosie" Meg instructed her.

She wasn't supposed to call the princess by name but she does, just like she calls the crown prince, Alexander by his name when they are alone. She was the only person in the household who actually did.

"What is going on, Meg?" Rosemund was worried.

"I am going to tell you something, Rosie and I need you to be brave. In about a minute or so, you will be summoned into the king's court and you will be given a very bad news. I need you to remain straight-faced, child. Do not react" Meg told her as she helped her dress.

"What is it, Meg?"

"The Royal family and the small royal knights were ambushed on their way to Namura kingdom. They were traveling separately from the large army that was supposed to invade the Eastern hemisphere" Meg broke the news to her as gently as possible.

The young princess's eyes tears up in a second as she struggled to contain her emotions.

"Papa and.... Alexander?"

"I am afraid, they are gone, child. The king's body was recovered but the crown prince's body is still missing"

The child completely broke down in tears. She didn't make any sound, just the outpour of tears that rushed down her face. Meg was working fast on the dress. Soon, princess Rosemund was in a golden dress that made her look older than she actually was.

"There will be time for grieving, later. You are Queen over the whole Western hemisphere, now. It's my job to make sure, it stays that way. Wipe your tears quickly, Queens don't cry"

"But Alexander… Meg?"

"I know. We will grieve him later"

"You are crying too, Meg"

"Silly tears" Meg wiped her eyes vigorously "Now, when the horseman announces the death of the king and crown prince. The council's eyes will be upon you, Rose. They would expect you to crumble-"

"But I won't give them the satisfaction, Meg. I will be brave, you will see. Queens don't cry"

"Good girl. I will wipe your face, now. I can hear their footstep coming closer.....act normal"

There was a soft knock and the door was pushed open with force. Two knights and a royal announcer entered.

"The presence of Princess Rosemund is required with immediate urgency in the king's court"

Rosemund turned and walked out in a composed fashion. When Meg tried to follow her the knights stopped her.

"Unhand her immediately. Or my first decree as Queen will be your head, knight" Rosemund said a voice so quiet that even Meg was impressed.

When Rosemund got to the king's Court, all the seven men that made up the seven Noble houses of Aradale stood up as she entered.

Rosemund prayed to the gods that she would look put-together enough to pull off a straight face when she will be informed that her family died. When she got to the throne, she simply stood in front of it like her father taught her. She wasn't allowed to sit on it until after her coronation.

The whole council stood up too, they weren't allowed to sit when a member of the royal family was standing. A horseman came inside to make the announcement.

"King Darius and crown prince Alexander of Aradale lost their lives as they were ambushed, her Majesty" The horseman told her.

Rosemund did not flinch, at all. She just stood there with an vacant face and brave countenance.

The oldest house in the council spoke next.

"As King Darius only surviving offspring and in accordance to tradition, you are now Queen of Aradale and over all of Western hemisphere, Rosemund of Aradale"

"All hail the Queen! All hail the Queen! All hail the Queen!" The whole houses pledged their allegiance to Rosemund.

"When is the coronation, Lord Rupert?"

"After we burial our king, officially but even though you are not yet crowned, you will make decisions over Aradale from this second"

"Then hear my decree. Find the crown prince, dead or alive. And I want the head of sir Litton in accordance to punishment for treason if he doesn't appear before the crown by dawn tomorrow"

The whole court stared at her in awe. She was Darius daughter after all.. But their attention was averted when the door opened and the crown prince entered.
