Chapter thirty nine: When you need me.

"His Highness, my place is by your side... protecting you"

Sir Judd stood with his left hand on his sword and the right by his side. He was a gaint with a devil's fork beard with no moustache which fitted perfectly on his diamond shaped face.

He had a devil may care outlook that made people weirdly uncomfortable around him. He hardly spoke unless it was to bark orders to his knights or order for an execution on behalf of the king.

Many people that went against Sir Judd in battle never live long enough to tell the tale. And with a viking-gold hair and concrete jaw, he was ruggedly handsome but oblivious of it.

King Alexander watched sir Judd from his peripheral vision as his servant clothed him in his armor. His decision to cross the Western hemisphere border to the southern hemisphere made his lead knight uncomfortable to say the least.

"I will be fine, Judd. Stay here and guard the palace and my family" Alexander told him with a lazy voice.

"I have a hundred and forty seven men to guard the castle. My place is by the crown's side, his Highness"

King Alexander knew that Judd would never let him out of his sight. He would only agree to remain in the castle, only to follow him later.

The door opened and Princess Rosemund entered with a scowl on her face. It was time like this that Alexander loved putting space between himself and his ill-tempered sister, who may have inherited the legendary temper of the house of Aradale.

"Keep her away from me, Judd. My hands are otherwise occupied" Alexander was defenseless against his sister.

"If you think sir Judd is going to stop me, you have something else coming, Xander"

Judd stood like a wall in between the crown princess and the King. The princess threw a glare at him and sir Judd step aside.

"Coward" Alexander murmured to his knight, sir Judd. His servant was fast enough to dress him for battle before Rosemund reached him.

"Rose! Rose! Calm down!" Alexander placed his servant in between him and the princess but the servant absconded at the first chance he got.

Alexander took the wooden plate and placed it on his chest to act as a shield to protect him from Rosemund.

Rosemund threw her bangle at him, then the cup on the table and next the heavy saucer near the window. All the while Sir Judd stood silently by the door.

"I thought you said it was your job to protect me. Stop her sir Judd"

"Against the enemies, his Highness. It is my job to protect you against the enemies. I am sorry but you are on your own" Judd replied.

If he was a smiling man, he would have smiled as he watched the great king of the west as he tried to fight off heavy object launched at him by someone half his size.

"Rose! You are going to hurt me!"

"Well maybe I should. That way the funeral rites won't be a bother. I should kill you, Alexander!"

"It's not a big deal, Rosemund. I will be outside the Western hemisphere for three days"

"Alone! You will be without protection outside the hemisphere... Alone! The last time you left the hemisphere, Papa died! You almost died!" Rosemund poke her finger at his chest.

At that moment, he wasn't the ruthless king of Aradale and over western hemisphere. He was just her brother, Alexander.

Alexander saw the glimmer of tears on Rosemund. All the amused expression on his face disappeared.

"Sir Judd, please leave the princess and I alone for a minute"

Sir Judd bowed and left them.

"Rosemund, I have to do this. If they are more people like me out there, I have to find them and bring them to Aradale. The south is hunting werewolves"

Rosemund stopped throwing tantrums and listened to her brother.

"You are the only family I have, now. If you die, I will become Queen and I will...will inherit the curse, Alexander. And I won't have anyone"

Rosemund sobbed freely now. Alexander moved closer and pulled her into his arms. He would kill the whole world to make her happy.

"I am never going to allow that to happen, sweetheart. The cursed crown is mine and mine only. You focus on being happy and maybe working on your temper. No man wants an ill-tempered wife, little sister"

Rosemund pulled away from the hug to stare at her brother.

"You married an ill-tempered wife, his Highness" she said with a raised eyebrow.

"Janessa might be a little wild but-"

"A little?" Rosemund accused.

"Okay, maybe she wants me dead but deep inside her heart, she loves me" the king paused when he saw the disbelief on Rosemund's face "Very very deep in her heart, you just have to look deeper. Promise me something, Rosemund"

Rosemund looked at him seriously.

"Look after Janessa. She is Queen but you are the next in line. You are in charge of the West"

"Okay. It's not going to stop me from worrying about you"

"Don't be. We all know sir Judd will secretly follow me behind. He will be far away enough to be hidden and close enough to defend me if need be. And I am going with Semeen" Alexander reassured his sister.

Rosemund kissed his cheek and left.

Alexander walked into his chambers to bid goodbye to his wife. She was sitting on the bed when he entered.

"His Highness"

"How are you feeling now, Janessa?" Alexander inquired.

"I feel like I was shot by my husband"Jamie looked closely at his attire. He was dressed in his war regalia.

She became apprehensive.

"Where are you going?"

Alexander sat close to her. He stared at her for a while. Neither where able to take their eyes off of each other.

It took the hand he had chained to the wall and pulled a key out of thin air.

"What are you doing?"

Alexander took the chain off of her hand. Jamie rubbed her wrist severally. The fur had prevented a mark and she was grateful for it.

"I have to go away for a while" Alexander paused like the next part was difficult for him to say "If I die...If I don't come back, will you look out for Rosemund? Just stay with her until she has adjust to life as Queen before you go back to Namura?"

"You will be fine. If anyone is going to kill you, it will be me his Highness"

Jamie wondered why she was sad. If the king died than her life will be easier. Alexander stood up and left.

He was half way to the door when he turned and walked in long strides towards the Queen.

Jamie's heart beat faster and faster as he moved towards her. She knew what he was going to do yet she did nothing to stop him.

His arms went around her as he pulled her to himself. She felt the rush and the helplessness, the surging warmth that emanated from within her and his face was close to her until it burred into nothingness.

He kissed her.

At first, softly like he was seeking her permission to deepen it. Like he was giving her time to change her mind. But she didn't. What she did was burrow closer to him like the mere clothes she was wearing was suddenly bothersome and a wicked barrier. She didn't want him to stop. She was fast becoming acquainted to this dangerous yet sensational feeling she was feeling now.

Then with a swift graduation that made Jamie cling to him as the only steady object in her world, his mouth became insistent as her shaking lips parted sending a slightly familiar quiver through her as sensation she never thought was possible filled her. And before she could do something about it. He released her.

Jamie watched as he headed for the door.. He was gone.
