Chapter Forty: Just a regular man.

King Alexander stopped his horse for a minute. He knew that beyond the big oak tree was the southern hemisphere. His authority ended where he stood.

If he and his traveling companion moved another inch then he would be trespassing and breaking one of the treaties he signed with other hemispheres. He can't step into another hemisphere as king. But he can travel as a regular westerner.

King Alexander took out the symbol of his house, the only thing he had that could identify him as King and he moved closer to the tree to hang it. It was safe there. No one was allowed to touch the king's symbol.

Like requested, the supplies he had sent to the borders was waiting for him. King Alexander got down from the horse and found the bag that was hidden under the dry shrubs near the oak tree.

He opened it and took out clothings inside. He helped Semeen down from the horse and handed over the peasant dress to her to change into. He was going into the south dressed as a peasant farmer and Semeen was going to play the role of his sister.

"Thank you, his Highness" Semeen told him. She touched his arm lightly. Alexander could swear her hand lingered a second more than normal.

"Change into this dress. It will allow us fit in with the southerners"

Alexander gave her privacy to change behind the oak tree while he moved away to a distance to change into the farmer's clothes.

Alexander was halfway done when he heard footsteps. He had just fastened his pants and was about to put on a shirt that looked like it had seen rough times when he heard the sound.

King Alexander pulled the sword he dropped on the ground and before Semeen could announce her presence, a sword was pointed at her throat.

"You shouldn't creep up on me, Semeen. Not when I am armed" Alexander spoke with a calm voice.

He was naked from waist up. His chest was smooth and sculpted. It was evenly toned like the rest of his body. Alexander made no immediate move to cloth himself, he simply stared at the girl that intruded with a firm look.

She stared at him. When he saw that she was in no hurry to cower like every proper unmarried girl was supposed to react when seeing a half naked man, Alexander picked up the shirt and pulled it over his head to dress up.

"What do you want Semeen?"

"I need help undressing, Wolf King. There are so many hooks than I am used to"

Alexander watched as she came closer to help him with his cuffs. He knew she was flirting with him but he didn't stop her from helping with his cuff links. He just watched her curiously.

"Thanks" Alexander whispered when she was done.

"Will you help me unhook my dress, his Highness?" She turned her back to him and moved her hair to a side.

Alexander watched her closely for the first time. She turned to find out why the King was hesitant.

Her mercury-red crashed over her shoulders. She had a ladylike personality that Alexander found alluring.

Alexander pulled a blade for his ankle and handed it over to her.

"His Highness?" Semeen sounded confused.

Alexander moved closer to her and moved some rogue strands of hair and tucked it behind Semeen's ear. He whispered to her.

"Cut yourself out, Semeen. And next time, I like to finish dressing before I am intruded on"

Semeen bowed as Alexander went back to the place he left the horses.

Few minutes later, King Alexander was traveling as a southern farmer named Darius with his little sister, Semeen.

They came to a halt where the road bifurcated. Semeen knew those paths well. She was a southern girl after all.

"Which way to where the pack are?" King Alexander asked her.

"The right. It's not far from here, his Highness"

"I am not a king, here. I am just a farmer, remember that Semeen. Remember to call me Darius"

Semeen barely nodded when she took off in a hurry. Alexander followed right behind. They rode for some minutes before she stopped and came down from the horse. She signaled for Alexander to do the same.

Alexander saw the camp. He also saw the king's symbol all over the place. He knew Semeen had lied to him.

He pushed her to the tree and pressed a blade to her throat.

"Your pack wasn't attacked, was it? Everything you told me was a lie. You are an escaped prisoner, aren't you? a king's prisoner!"

(We needed your help!) Semeen told him through their mind link.

"Speak out loud. I don't want you in mind"

"I didn't lie. The kings in the south are hunting our kind. They either kill or imprison us. Everything I told you is the truth, King Alexander. It just happened years ago"

Alexander took the blade away from her throat.

"You have exactly three minutes to explain to me what happened or I am going back to my kingdom"

Semeen rubbed her neck.

"I was from the southern moon pack. The biggest werewolves pack in the south. When I was eight years old, my pack was attacked by King Jacob of Trale. What we thought wasn't possible became possible, the humans came in batches and many were killed including my father, Alpha Damon. The ones that survived were taken as prisoner and we're locked away"

Alexander didn't show how much the story affected him.

"Why seek for help now after ten years, Semeen?"

Semeen moved towards the camp and stared out.

"My mother, Luna Elise even after years of punishment and slavery refused to accept to be King Jacob's mistress. Last week, she tried to kill the king and she was caught. They are going to execute her by dusk tomorrow. She was just trying to save me"

Semeen knew King Alexander wanted to know how her mother saved her.

"It seems that the king's attention had been diverted to me. My mother fought him off while I escaped to find you"

Semeen watched the wolf king. Was he going to help her or would he stand by and watch her mother die?
