Chapter sixty six: Let's have a word

"Rosemund told me about your encounter with a wolf...I would like to..." Alexander started up but Jamie interrupted him

"Max wasn't going to hurt your sister. You don't have to hunt him down. I won't let you" Jamie spoke boldly to him.

If the king was going to hunt the Wolf, she won't sit quietly and watch him.

"You should let me finish before you jump into conclusion, Monisha. I wanted to apologize for not being able to keep you out of harm's way. A wolf had no business roaming about the castle and he could have killed you" Alexander stood up and moved closer to her and touched her chin gently.

"Max would never hurt me. He is my friend" Jamie whispered uncomfortably as she wanted to take a step back from Alexander.

"Yet I should have never placed you in that kind of danger. The wolf is a beast that could have seriously hurt you. I am sorry I did that" Alexander traced her jawline and Jamie became more uncomfortable with his closeness. She was angry with him and he was making it difficult for her to remain angry.

"It's not your fault. I shouldn't be roam the garden in the night also"

"No. You shouldn't" Alexander agreed with her.

"But Max would never hurt me. He is my friend"

Alexander felt his wolf protest at being called a friend. She is my mate! Alexander almost smiled. Now Max knows how it felt when Jamie introduced him as her brother.

"I know you think he won't hurt you but you shouldn't put yourself in danger" Alexander kissed her softly.

He didn't apply any pressure just a little kiss on the lips. She refused to kiss him back.

"I don't want Semeen as my lady in waiting" Jamie whispered to him as soon as he pulled away. He kissed her ear before taking his hands away from her body.

"I don't want Semeen, Alexander"

"We are not going to discuss that, Janessa. I have made my decision" Alexander was calm but his voice said his decision was finally.

"I can challenge that decision as Queen!" Jamie challenged.

"I know that ridiculous law where the Queen can set a court of noble men to present her case against the king but I should remind you no Queen has ever done that in 300 years and no Queen ever won. It's ridiculous" Alexander spoke with a cold voice that would push anyone to the edge of panic. But Jamie was too stubborn to panic.

"You would be surprised what a little determination could do to your reputation, his Highness. The humiliation you will experience when I take the most powerful king in Derkal to court. Everyone would know and everyone would talk about it and I might just win, Alexander"

King Alexander moved threatening towards her almost towering over her like a mountain. Jamie took a step and another and another until there was no other place to step on. With her back to the wall and Alexander in front of her with an enraged expression, she simply stared at him and reminded herself to breathe.

"Are you threatening me, Janessa?"

Jamie was mute.

"I don't respond well to threats, your majesty. You should know not to poke a sleeping tiger"

Alexander spoke slowly like he didn't want any of his words to go unheard.

"I want Semeen gone" Jamie told him in between her clenched Jaw.

"No" He told her.

"No?" Jamie was surprised "So, you would rather be humiliated than send that nobody away?"

Now, she was pissed off.

"Semeen stays. Do you want to know why?" Alexander asked her.

"I am sure if I glare at you long enough without saying anything, you will go ahead and tell me"

"I don't respond well to threats. I simply don't and Semeen is not a nobody" Alexander yelled at her.

"Yeah, she is your mistress!" Jamie yelled back.

Alexander stared at her. He didn't deny the accusation even though he knew it wasn't true.

"She is a girl whose mother died to protect me. Semeen is important to me and she will stay on as your lady"

Jamie noticed he didn't say anything to her accusation. He simply ignored her statement.

"What will you do if I take you to the court of noble men, your Highness?" Jamie challenged her.

"I will appear to the court and sit through the tedious process and then hear their judgement. Then when we are done, I will send my dogs after your sister Arabella and I will imprison her for breaking her marriage chains which is the whole reason I am having this conversation with you!" Alexander finally lost his temper.

Jamie felt chills go down her spine. He was threatening her sister and she knew in her heart that he was very serious.

"You can't do that to Bella, you promised my father" Jamie whispered.

"I told King Jared that I won't have her head, I didn't say anything about imprisonment"

Jamie knew at that moment that she had lost.

"Semeen stays but this isn't over, Alexander" Jamie went for the door but Alexander stopped her.

"Get to know her. You might even like her and she will protect you if need be" Alexander's voice was considerably lower now....almost pleading. His reason for putting Semeen with Janessa wasn't purely selfish. Alexander wanted a wolf nearby if his Queen was ever attacked.

"I can protect myself thank you very much. But do you know who else needs protecting...you and Semeen. You might just wake up one day with a dagger impaled in your chest"

With the last threat, Jamie opened the door and slipped out.

"I just wanted a word with you" Alexander said to the closed door.

He sat on the bed and let out a breath. With Jamie's threats lingering in the air it made his chest heavy. By laws of Aradale, he should be informing his lead knight about the threat but Alexander could never do that. He cared for Janessa too much to do that.....he cared a little too much.
