Chapter seventy two: a rare occurrence and he won't freak out.

Alexander was walking angrily to his cabin in the forest when suddenly he heard the crackling of his bones and next thing, he was vaguely aware of his wolf racing in the forest towards a hunched figure. He became fully awake when he heard Jamie telling him that she wanted to go home.

"It's not full moon! It's not a full moon. Why am I a wolf?" Alexander spoke to his wolf in his mind.

"Don't panic Alexander!" Max cautioned him.

"I am not panicking, damn it! It's not full moon and I am a wolf. What is happening?" Alexander asked in a raised voice. Max wished his human would stop yelling. It was giving him a headache plus he had to listen to the sobbing of their Queen Luna too. It was a lot for any wolf and he didn't need the ill-tempered Alexander to make everything worst.

"Would you please stop yelling? I don't know what happened? I was asleep and then I heard her call my name in distress and voila! I am in my wolf form. So, quit whining like a little girl and explain to me why she is out in the cold alone in the forest!" Max was the one yelling now.

Jamie pulled away as soon as the wolf kept howling.

"Don't say that to me, Maximus! I am king and you are nothing"

Max purred at Alexander's consciousness. It hurt Alexander for a second.

"I am Alpha!" He warned him.

Alexander had never seen him that angry before. He took his warning and calmed down. Max was always the voice of reason most times except when he was feeling territorial or Alexander was threatened.

"What did you say to her?" He growled at Alexander.

"Nothing except I was going to treat her like my mistress" Alexander answered truthfully.

Max purred at Alexander's consciousness again, now the pain was twice as before.

"She is my Luna, you imp! You had no right"

This time around, Alexander fought back only physically he pushed Max to the tree and he landed with a sound.

"That hurt, you son of a tooth!" Alexander cursed at him.

Jamie watched as Max slammed into the tree. She wondered what was going on. First, he started howling and the next; he was slamming his body to the tree.

"Max!" Jamie screamed at ran to him but he howled even louder and stared at her with bloodshot eyes.

Alexander and Max glared at each other for while, one waiting for the other to attack. They have bickered before even argued but they had never physically hurt each other before and it was all her fault.

"Stay away from her" Max warned him.

"Make me, Maximus" Alexander countered.

Jamie wondered what was going on and why the wolf was behaving like that. She moved closer even though she knew the wolf could hurt her. Her father once told her that wolves could see spirits and Jamie thought it was what made him so angry and why he was howling. She wanted to sooth him when she heard the tree snap and turned around swiftly to find four men behind her.

Who were they? And why were they holding hunting arrows and bows among other weapons they were carrying?

"Who are you?" Jamie asked them as fear slowly creeps through the cracks at the back of her mind.

"I told you the West is a great hunting ground. Look! There is even a girl" one of the men told the other.

Jamie recognized one of them. He was Prince Dempsey's knight.

"We don't want to hurt you, young girl. We just want the wolf" crown prince Dempsey's knight spoke to her.

"Speak for yourself, Sir Craig. I have a million and one thing I want her for" the man turned to Jamie "you will like it. You are a kept woman right? Since no respectable woman would be seen outside alone at this ungodly hour"

Jamie took a step back. The fear was slowly enveloping her like a warm blanket. She turned at Max and he still stood by her side.

Thanks old friend but there is nothing you can do! Jamie wanted to tell the wolf. She wasn't just outnumbered and she was armed with nothing but her little ankle daggers.

"Just give us the wolf and I will guarantee your safety" sir Craig came forward like he was trying to earn her trust. He took out his arrow from the back bag he was with and aimed it at Max.

Jamie screamed.

"Max, run!" She yelled at the wolf and placed her body in between sir Craig's weapon and the wolf.

"Like hell I will!" Max growled angrily and stepped out from behind her to stare at the intruders.

"If they touch a single hair on her hair, rip them to shreds, Maximus!" Alexander commanded. He was more aware now and he fought to regain his human form but Max won't let him.

"I am glad I have your permission, king" Max yelled sarcastically at his human. Alexander rolled his eyes.

"I am queen Janessa of the west, I command you to return to your cabin at once or I will maim you" Jamie wanted to sound brave and she hoped she did.

"She is the queen, everybody!" The man mocked her "you want us to believe that the most powerful female monarch in Derkal is roaming the forest at this ungodly hour with no protection?"

"But I am!"

"Show us the symbol of the house of Aradale" one of them demanded.

As soon as Jamie heard he spoke, she realized what Alexander had been trying to tell her about wandering off on her own. She had no symbol to show. Without the binding ceremony, Alexander can't offer her one. Jamie thought of what to do. She had a symbol of the house of Namura.. The necklace she always wore.
