Chapter seventy four: Don't leave me to die

Alexander refused to blink. It was important to him that the man believed him. It was even more important than carrying out the promise himself.

He watched the man and waited for a second or two for him to affirm that he understood but the man didn't. What was the use of a tongue if it wasn't used to answer a question?

"Take his tongue, sir Walters!"

Alexander walked away as the screams of the man echoed behind him. Janessa weighed less than a feather to him but the warm fluid that dripped on his pants as he walked bothered him. Alexander refused to acknowledge that it was blood....her blood.

Then the dark forest became less dark and he could smell things a mile away. Then he heard her heart beat.

Trump! Trump!

She was alive but with each heart beat, the weaker the sound.

Alexander had no idea what was happening to him. He listened far ahead and he could hear Rosemund's voice except Rosemund was in the castle and the castle was far away. How was this possible?

He took off with a speed he had never experienced before. Adrenaline coursed through his vein as he pushed himself to go even faster. He had no idea but he was almost as fast as a running horse which was impossible.

Alexander waited for the known symptoms of running but he found none. His breathing wasn't rowdy and there were no layer of sweats on the nape of his neck and forehead. His respiration was steady as he even went faster.

At the speed he was on, everything was a blur. Just a greenish blob that went past him as he moved forward and it didn't faze him a bit.

What was happening to him? He felt stronger, faster and he could hear from a mile away. Those were qualities Alexander hadn't before. It was strange and couldn't have come at a better time.

Then he felt her shiver. She was cold. He might be impenetrable but she wasn't. Every little breeze went through her lungs like pebbles. The wind pushed her hair back from her face and she was turning blue. Was it cold or lack of blood, Alexander had no idea? But he knew for certain he was almost home and help was around the corner.

He finally came to a stop as his feet slapped the stone cold floor as he raced to the doctor's lodge. Alexander jetted past various humans and various things he was too reluctant to acknowledge. It was like he was blind to the world.

He placed her on the bed and the royal doctor went to work. The royal doctor already had everything ready to treat her injury and Alexander was puzzled but then He saw Semeen by the corner of the room. Her face appeared as if she had been crying and Alexander knew.

Alexander tried to find his wolf within him but he wasn't there.

"Max!" He called out but he felt himself answering to his own call.

His heart rate accelerated like he was dancing to the tunes played a mad man. Something had happened. Something Alexander didn't know. And he hated not knowing.

"Max!"

Something definitely happened to him because for the first time in a long while, he was completely merged with his wolf. He was Max and Alexander at the same time. Two perfect pieces finally fitting together. Alexander's eyes widened and he tried to control his breathing. He turned and faced the physician.

"How is she?"

The royal doctor pulled at the arrow but he wasn't strong enough. Alexander advanced to offer his expertise except Semeen was there and she was pulling the arrow out of the mangled hand.

"There! Fix her!" She commanded the royal doctor.

The doctor took a bottle from inside the brown big bag on the table and linen. He started wiping the injured site and it seemed like he didn't take an offense that a little girl not only ordered him but took out an arrow he couldn't. The good doctor seemly went to work.

Good! Alexander would hate to kill him. Good court physician were hard to come by and he was the best. That wouldn't matter much if his best wasn't enough and his wife died. It won't matter much, would it?

Semeen folded her hands neatly under her armpit. It was matter of comfort and she was determined to get some even if it was from her warm armpit. She pushed her brown hair away from her forehead; her hair band must have fallen while she fought earlier. Her hair was a mess and her lips were bloodied but it was nothing compared to watching the lifeless body of the woman she should have been protecting.

She stared at the arrow she took apart earlier, a million questions prowling through her dazed mind. How was she supposed to look the Alpha King in the face? How was she supposed to live with herself? A human girl she begrudgingly accepted to protect had in fact protected her and it didn't make Semeen ecstatic.

"Will she be alright?" She asked the pot bellied physician that liked his toys a little too much if Semeen was asked.

The man grunted like a castrated pig. He hated the constant pacing and interruptions from a girl he a barely knew.

"Is she?" The king asked himself.

"She will be if you get me some necessary equipment. Some are hard to come by, your highness" the doctor never took his eyes off of Jamie.

"Make a list and I will get it to you in an hour" Alexander commanded him.

The doctor pointed to a note on the table. Semeen picked it up and handed it over to Alexander.

"And I need Sir Luther Judd, your highness" the doctor spoke too.

"We will get it" he murmured and tried to leave.

"I will get it in a few minutes" Semeen took the note from him and walked out.

"I shall get Judd to you, doctor" Alexander followed Semeen out.

The good doctor wondered how long before they realized the things listed on the paper was almost impossible to get.
