Chapter seventy seven: On the brink of War

Semeen raced back to the physician hall with the items almost bumping into sir judd who seemed to be in a hurry too. It was strange, Sir Judd was never in a hurry.

Semeen dropped the items the doctor requested on the table and sat beside the Queen's bed.

"That is everything you asked for" she murmured to the doctor.

The court physician blinked...twice. there was no way the girl could have gotten everything on the list which included a tooth of a life lion.

"What happened?" Judd asked the preoccupied doctor.

The physician ignored the giant knight. He rumpaged through the bag and he found a bloodied tooth there. It was a lion's tooth alright.

"What the hell happened?" Judd's voice was getting hard to ignore.

Even though the physician wanted to ask Semeen how she got the tooth, the look in her eyes told him it was unwise to poke a sleeping tigress. And so, he let it be. He had a bigger problem at hand anyway. An exploding vulcano in the form of a guilt laced lead knight.

"The queen will be alright, sir Judd. It's not a fatal injury but there is a likelihood that the nerve was pinched and I need to try as much as possible to prevent paralysis of intrinsic muscles to the hand"

Judd stared blankly at the doctor. What in God's name was he talking about?

"I need to expose more fresh in her hand to repair something and I need you to keep her still because one wrong move and she is paralyzed. Can you keep her still? I would ask the king but her screams might..."

"I will keep her still and you will keep her the same as she was yesterday, Doctor"

The door squeaked and everyone turned to stare at it. The king walked inside with an enraged face.

"Where the heck have you been, Judd?"

Judd could explain that he did as the queen ordered and he was blameless but he didn't.

"I have no excuse for my absence, your highness. I should have been there and I deserved whatever comes to me but now, I need to hold the queen down while the physician does the rest. You have to go, your highness"

Alexander moved closer to his wife and held her uninjured hand. He brought it to his face and kissed it.

"I am not leaving her like this. She needs me" he murmured.

Judd moved nearer. The king didn't need a lead knight, he needed a friend. A firm friend to tell him the truth.

"Alexander, I can't worry about you and hold her still while she screams in pain. You need to go and let me handle this. Leave, Alexander"

The king and Judd could have been friends if both of them believed in such things. King Darius the former king drilled the importance of allies but the frivolity of friendship. And Judd was duty bound to be a protector and nothing more.

"I will take care of her, you have my word" Judd reassured him.

This must have been the first time he called the king by his name. It felt intimate and both men were uncomfortable with that word.

Alexander grunted and stood up. Maybe his time would be well spent punishing the culprits involved in hurting his woman.

"Come on, Semeen. Let's leave them to work"

"I would rather stay, your highness" the guilt laden girl answered him.

"I know but stand down Alpha Luna. Wouldn't you rather see the baffoons that attacked us punished?" Alexander asked her with his mind.

Semeen followed him behind as they walked out. Alexander's hastened as he made his way to the execution ground. The ground should be buzzing with noise as people watch as he took off the tongue of the offenders but he heard... nothing.

Everywhere was empty and Alexander wanted to know why. He walked furiously to his court and his council of noble houses were present. Who the hell called a meeting? Why was everything going haywire?

He matched inside and found his sister standing near his throne wearing the crown heiress tiara on her head.

Alexander fumed. His little sister was taking charge and somehow had undermined his authority. He just didn't know how.

"What did you do, Rosemund?" Alexander spoke with a voice of thunder.

"Sorry, Alexander....I called off the maiming of Sir booth"

Alexander changed his mind. He pulled the large door open.

"The last house to leave my court will face an unimaginable repercussion! Get out!" Alexander yelled and everyone stood up and walked out as fast as humanly possible.

Now that they were alone, Rosemund got more tense.

"Alexander!"

"It's his Highness and what you just did is treason, princess Rosemund... punishable by death, young lady"

"Fine, your highness! I was just protecting you. You can't punish me for protecting my brother!" Rosemund moved closer to him.

"What the hell are you talking about, Rosemund?"

"You were going to start a war we were going to lose. A war between the West and the rest of the world, Xander. We signed an accord today, have you forgotten? No kingdom is allowed to take revenge or harm anyone. I had to stop the maiming. I was just looking after my brother. I am sorry but I am not sorry and you can punish me as you see fit"

Alexander was quiet. There was no argument to counter what his sister said.

"You have changed Alexander, ever since she came here, you take impulsive decisions that aren't in the best interest of the kingdom and it wouldn't pain me as much if she felt the same about you. She hates you, Xander"

"She doesn't, Rose. Imagine how you would feel if a king abducts you and forces you to be a replacement bride. You would hate the man too"

Rosemund moved closer to him and watched him before she walked towards the door.

"Except you didn't kidnap her, did you?"

Alexander was quiet.

"Go to your chambers, little one"
