Chapter ninety one: What's in your head 2?

"Thank you" Jamie flew into his arms without thinking. He had given her back something that meant the world to her.

Alexander felt conflicted. She was hugging him but she still did not want to stay in Aradale with him. It didn't stop him from hugging her back briefly before pulling away.

Now that he knew for certain, she was never going to chose him it was time to stop his heart from falling in love with her totally.

He had to keep her at arm's distance.

"This is where you shot me!" Jamie said all of a sudden. She remembered the pain that went through her before everything went pitch black and she slipped into unconsciousness.

"I am not imagining it. You shot me, Alexander! You shot me! The pain I felt was unbearable right before I passed out. I remember it!" Jamie was almost hysterical with joy and sadness at the same time. She wasn't crazy.

"I shot you" he agreed with her.

"So you lied about being unable to hurt me" Jamie concluded for him.

She moved forward out of curiosity. With each step she took, she had a bad feeling accompany her. Then she saw it and her eyes widened.

Her heart dropped to her toes and she felt weak as her eyes scanned the cliff and catalogued every single piece of rock she saw. Jamie moved closer to be sure she wasn't imagining the cliff. She could feel the coldness of a rock beneath her feet and it made her toes curl around the edge in an attempt to keep herself from going over to her death.

A strong arm went around her waist and pulled her back instantly.

"I had to shoot you. You weren't listening to me yelling stop over and over again. You never listen"

Jamie felt her cheeks wet. She wasn't making a sound just her rough breathing as she stared at him.

She was unconsciously touching her shoulder where the scar was. Alexander followed her hand with his eyes and she rubbed that part.

"I am sorry I hurt you" he apologized to her.

Jamie blinked. What else was she wrong about? She remembered the days that followed after he shot her with an arrow. She had been distant and threatening towards him. She had sent him away and she sulked about it for days. Jamie had been comfortable hating him and he had let her. Why didn't he say anything earlier? Why would he allow her to think the worst of him?

Why? Why?

Jamie knew she had to say something. Talking in her head wasn't going to do the trick this time.

But what do you say to the man that saved your life a little too many times? Thank you I was mean to you even though you had my best Interest or sorry, I was a monster to you, it's in my nature, after you kidnapped me?

Stop thinking Jamie! Say something to him!

"You saved my life and I threatened to take yours for it!"

They have been walking in silence for quite sometimes now. It was comfortable silence as Alexander watched Jamie stay in her head for a while. He took her hand as they walked back to their horse and mounted it.

Even though Alexander wanted to check on the council of nine kings and one queen, he followed his wife to her chamber instead. Rachael tidied up the queen's chamber when the couple entered inside. She might be comfortable around the Queen but she was still terrified of the king.

"Your highness" she curtsy and picked up the broom she dropped by the door.

"Rachael, have our breakfast served in the garden with wine" Alexander looked at Jamie and ask "Is it too early to drink wine?"

Jamie smiled weakly at him and sat on the bed "It never too early for wine"

Rachael couldn't wait to get out as soon as the king finished talking. With Rachael gone, Alexander sat back down on the bed behind Jamie. She leaned against him and he pulled her closer to his body and felt how cold her fingers were. They had gone out without a proper hand glove earlier. Alexander pulled the blanket over them.

Jamie could feel his chest rise and fall slightly. She closed her eyes momentarily as she figured out what to say.

"Why?" it was the only phrase she could form.

"Why, what?" Alexander asked her by whispering it in her ear. It wasn't meant to be seductive but a way to pass across a message yet she felt the thrills as his breath caressed her soft sensitive ear.

"Why didn't you say anything earlier? Why would you let me believe you hurt me?" Jamie asked him.

All these time she had hated him even envied him a little bit. He had everything she had to fight all her life for scraps - respect, power, throne and knighthood. She had sought for them all her life, which had eventually resulted in her exile.

The pain she thought he caused her was what kept her hatred of him burning, it gave her hope that one day she would escape and be returned to her kingdom but with the fuel gone now, she had no idea what to feel or how to feel about him.

Alexander had never really thought about her questions. Why he let her think he was a monster who had her lashed and why he had gone out of his way to order servants not to correct her assumptions. But there were a lot of things he hadn't corrected people about.

He hadn't corrected the notion that he wasn't a tyrant like his father. He hadn't corrected the assumption that his heart was kissed by the demon goddess medusa and it was made of stone.. He hadn't corrected that he would prefer if people didn't call him the devil of Aradale.
